Casualties in clashes between Kurdish forces and Islamists, north Syria

Tel Abyad, al-Raqqa, Syria ــOn Monday, clashes resumed sporadically between the Popular Protection Units (YPG) −backed by the brigade of Jabhat al-Akrad− and islamic battalions of al-Nusra Front (Jabhat al-Nusra) and the Islamic State in Iraq and Sham group (ISIS). The clashes took place west of Tel Abyad −between the villages of Sarunja and Mahmoudia.

According to the Democratic Union Party (PYD)-linked news agency, Hawar, two members of the Islamic armed groups have been killed in the clashes.

Meanwhile, a car belongs to the Islamic Brigades was destroyed with its entire crew between the villages of Jamis and Kalba.

Yesterday, the Islamic battalions stormed the Tel Akhdar village (west of Tel Abyad in Raqqa’s suburb) and ordered villagers to evacuate as setting up machine gun (Dushka model) on the roof of a primary school in the village. According to eyewitnesses, residents did not leave their homes despite displacing some of the villagers.

Over the past two days, the city of Tel Abyad saw a campaign of arrests by Islamists who targetted Kurdish citizens after the death of a member from the Islamic State in Iraq and Sham group (ISIS) by a “sniper”.

Activists from the Kurdish Youth Movement (TCK) told ARA News that in west of Kobanî /Ain al-Arab there have been displacement cases as some Kurdish citizens kidnapped by the Islamic groups in the Shoyoukh Township. Moreover, Dr. Ezzedin Muslim has been abducted by members of the Islamic State in Iraq and Sham (ISIS).

In another development, clashes resumed today, between Ahfad al-Rasul brigade and the Islamic State in Iraq and Sham (ISIS) in the city of al-Raqqa. The clashes took place in the neighborhood of the Shuhada district (Martyrs district).

According to media sources inside the city, six members of the Ahfad al-Rasul brigade were killed in an explosion of a bombed car targeted a stronghold of that brigade in the train station. However, other media sources reported that the train station most probably has been fully destroyed after the explosion.

“The withdrawal of the ISIS from the clashes site coincided with the helicopters flight in the sky of the city,” the same sources said.
