Qamishli, Syria− Members of the Syrian regime-linked militia of the National Army were targeted by a bomb planted near one of their strongholds in al-Wihde street in the city of Qamishli, north-eastern Syria.

Sources told ARA News that the explosion caused a partial evacuation of the residents from the al-Wihda street.

A number of the National Army members were injured and moved to the main hospital in Qamishlo/Qamishli, where they received first aid.

Meanwhile, the Pro-Assad security members and militants of National Army were in full alert in front of the hospital, activists said.

The National Army militia is affiliated with the Syrian regime and work under the leadership of Mohammed Fares, a prominent pro-Assad Arab figure in the city of Qamishli −where Kurds form the majority of the population.

The explosion coincided intensive shooting by both the Syrian security forces and members of the Kurdish security forces (Asayish) near the site of the explosion.

According to observers, the explosion was carried out either by Kurdish forces affiliated with the Democratic Union Party (PYD) or by some Islamists, as both groups are in conflict with the targeted National Army militia.

“The growing violence in Syria’s Kurdish areas led to the establishment of different armed groups who are in a continuous conflict to gain power,” an activist told ARA News

Recently, the city of Qamishli saw intensive movements by the regime’s forces that shelled from the airport area and 154 Regiment towards towns and villages in the southern areas of the city, as well as air strikes launched by pro-Assad forces’ helicopters targeting the strongholds of the armed opposition in the region.

The armed battalions of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) made several attempts to storm Qamishli in order to take over the city. According to sources from the National Hospital of Qamishli, the last ambush in July, 2013 was made by some FSA fighters against militias of the so-called National Army on the road between Qamishli and the town of Tel Hamis −(Kharab Asker village, Abu Qasayib, Albajaria barrier)− resulting in dozens of casualties among the Syrian regime-linked forces of the National Army.
