Afrin, Syria− A car bomb attack hit on Thursday a checkpoint of the Kurdish forces of the Popular Protection Units (YPG) in al-Ghazawiya village, 30km west of Afrin city, in Aleppo Province.
The attack caused the death of 15 YPG members and the death of the car passengers, in addition to the injury of two other members of the YPG.
Mohammed Osman, a resident of al-Ghazawiya village, told ARA News that two men, two women and three children were riding the bombed car, without knowing who of them was wearing the explosive belt or whether they were bound together by some family ties.
A member of the medical staff of Afrin Hospital in the city confirmed to ARA News that the injured were in a stable condition.
The incident came as the countryside of Kurdish Afrin city, in northwestern Syria, saw in the last months clashes between the YPG forces and fighters of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant group (ISIL).
