Hasaka, Syria− Abu Mohammed Joulani, leader of al-Qarda-linked Jabhat al-Nusra, lamented on Tuesday the assassination of the leader of Ahrar al-Sham Movement, Abu Khaled al-Souri, who was killed on Monday in a suicide bombing which targeted the Movement’s headquarters in Aleppo.

“Sheikh Abu Khalid has fought Nusayris (in reference to Alwites sect) for thirty years.  He accompanied Osama bin Laden, al-Zawahiri and Abu Musab al-Souri,” Joulani said in an audio recording published on YouTube.

He pointed out that Abu Khaled al-Souri has never been a follower of the Movement but rather he was for all the Mujahideen, “a man of solutions, not a man of rifts”.

“Al-Souri visited me a few days before his death, and we discussed the situation in Syria. We also discussed possibilities of stopping the conflict between the Islamic battalions and the Islamic state of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL),” said Joulani.

Joulani stressed that the ones who assassinated al-Souri are deceived as they stand against legitimate rights according to the Sharia (Islamic law) −in reference to ISIL.

Syrian rebels blamed ISIL −whose fighters are also affiliated with al-Qaeda− for Aleppo’s bombings on Monday, which claimed the life of leader of Ahrar al-Sham Movement Abu Khaled al-Souri.

“The internal conflict caused by the ISIL, resulted in the formation of the so-called Sahawat /Awakening (a model for the alliance of Iraqi Sunni Arab tribes that opposed al-Qaeda in Iraq) in reference to the National Army which the Syrian coalition (main opposition body) is trying to create,” he added.

ISIL did not respond to the calls to end rifts with other Islamic groups in Syria,” Joulani added.

Joulani reiterated his call for ISIL and the Islamic Brigades to resort to the Sharia as being applied on all parties without restrictions or bias. He called for the cessation of “all military operations” between the parties until selecting members of a “Sharia Court”, appointing five days as a limit to ISIL to respond to his call.

He concluded his speech by threatening the ISIL, in the case of not responding his call to resolve rifts, that al-Nusra Front (Jabhat al-Nusra) will be mobilizing its fighters against ISIL members.
