Syria Kurds organize workshops on women empowerment

Nusaybin, Turkey– The Birati Center for Democracy and Civil Society finished on Thursday a training course on principles of Human Rights in the city of Hasaka, northeast of Syria. The Birati Center works under the banner of spreading the concepts of human rights in the multi-ethnic region of northeastern Syria.    

15 young women participated in the training course which lasted for three days. The course focused on the roots of human rights’ concepts and the legitimacy of international human rights. The participants were also introduced to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).   

According a media report released by Fariq Group for Media and Art Production, the Birati Center is preparing for a new training course on Human Rights Culture for 20 women from Hasaka city within the framework of their project “Empowering Women”. 

Roziv Ibrahim, the director of the Birati Center in Sere Kaniye city, told ARA News that the members of the center are trying to broaden their activities and organize various workshops.  

“‘Women Empowerment’ is one of our projects which aims at raising the awareness of 40 women in Hasaka city about human rights and women rights. We will also train 20 women of them on sewing skills and will open a productive workshop for them,” said Ibrahim. “In Sere Kaniye city, we will train 35 women on making pastry and 15 other women for a productive workshop. We will also train the same number of women on embroidery.” 

The directorate of Birati Center  for Democracy and Civil Society is planning to open additional centers in the region for “Women Empowerment” and children, two of them in Qamishli city and two others in Sere Kaniye.
