Qamishli, Syria – On Monday the Kurdish security forces of the Assayish (security arm of the Democratic Union Party ‘PYD’) arrested a senior member of the Islamic State (IS), an al-Qaeda offshoot, in al-Hasakah province, northeastern Syria.
Media outlets close to the PYD-linked Auto-Administration reported that the Assayish forces raided a house belonging to militants of the Islamic State group in Khashman village (2 km north of Hasakah), and arrested the logistic official of the group there.
The captured IS senior member, whose identity remained anonymous, arrived in Hasakah earlier this month to gain support of the Arab tribal groups to the Islamic State.
On the other hand, clashes continue between militants of the Islamic State, and the Kurdish forces of the Popular Protection Units (YPG), in Jazaa village on the Syrian-Iraqi border in al-Hasakah province, as well as in the town of Rabia on the Iraqi side of the border in front of the crossing of Tel Kocher (Yarubia), local activists told ARA News.
In a linked context, the Media Center of the YPG announced the death of four IS members during clashes in Jazaa village in an attempt to storm the village on Monday. However, the YPG-linked Media Center did not mention the number of casualties in the ranks of the YPG forces in Jazaa clashes.
