Kobane, Syria – On Saturday, the Kurdish fighters of the Popular Protection Units (YPG) foiled attempted suicide attack with two car bombs by insurgents of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS), an al-Qaeda offshoot, The IS militants were trying to break into the city center of Kobane (Ain al-Arab) in northern Syria, amid continuous clashes between the two sides on three fronts, sources from Kobane said.

Omid Khoshman, media worker accompanying the YPG fighters in Kobane, told ARA News that the YPG fighters targeted the two car bombs of the IS extremists “who were trying to penetrate the YPG’s ranks from two sides”.

“The Kurdish forces are highly prepared for such incidents, and they responded immediately when the IS-led cars were trying to break into one of the main headquarters of the YPG in central Kobane,” Khoshman reported.

One of the YPG fighters told ARA News, on the condition of anonymity, that “military reinforcements arrived to the YPG forces in Kobane”, refusing to disclose the size or source of these reinforcements. ARA News could not verify this information from an independent source.

Ahmed Hisso, spokesman of al-Akrad Front Brigade (a Kurdish rebel group backing YPG against IS in northern Syria), said that they did not ask Turkey or other military factions to intervene in order to save Kobane; “but we demanded the Turkish authorities allow volunteers (Kurdish fighters) to cross the border and participate in defending Kobane city against terrorists of IS.”

“We thank all those who help stop the expansion of IS extremists as well as eliminating terrorism,” Hisso told ARA News. “We confirm the death of a large number of IS radicals on Saturday.”

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed on Saturday that more than 23 fighters from the IS group were killed in the city of Kobane, while trying to break into the Liberty Square downtown.

Meanwhile, at least 16 other IS insurgents were reportedly killed while an IS-led bus and a small truck loaded with arms and ammunition tried to advance in the southwestern districts of the city.

On the other hand, IS-linked media outlets published pictures of Kurdish civilians that were dragged by the legs behind a car on the road to Aleppo, south of Kobane.

The citizen Rashid Tozo, 55, from Tel Ghazal village, south Kobane, have been killed by IS extremists, local sources reported.

Supporters of the Islamic State group have reportedly broken into many houses of displaced Kurdish families in the southern countryside of Kobane and  have stolen private property.

“Several trucks loaded with sleeping rooms and furniture arrived in Serrin area near the IS-held city of Jarablus, on Saturday evening,” locals said.

Noteworthy, the U.S.-led coalition’s bombing of IS-held sites in Kobane and its environs has continued over the last three days, where activists monitored more than 16 air strikes hit the IS-led military vehicles and different centers in Kobane.
