Hezbollah and Syrian rebels exchange prisoners

ARA News

Beirut, Lebanon – The Lebanese Shiite militia of Hezbollah said Tuesday that negotiations with one of the Syrian armed opposition factions led to the exchange of detainees between the two parties.

Hezbollah revealed that the Syrian armed opposition released one of the party’s men who was captured in October during fighting in the town of Assal al-Ward in the Syrian Kalamoon area on the eastern Syrian-Lebanese border.

The Lebanese militia of Hezbollah issued a statement in which they stated that its imprisoned member, Emad Ayyad, had been freed Tuesday afternoon in an exchange of detainees, while Hezbollah released two captives of the Syrian armed opposition fighters.

Media activists based in Kalamoon area said that the Syrian soldiers released by Hezbollah were “the secret operations officer and his deputy in the Free Syrian Army (FSA)”.

Activists told ARA News that al-Mura’ee (FSA’s Secret operations officer in Kalamoon) was responsible for several attacks against Hezbollah strongholds in Kalamoon on the Lebanese border.
