ISIS militants advance towards military airport in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

Deir ez-Zor, Syria – The Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) took control of several military headquarters in the vicinity of the military airport of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, after fierce clashes with the pro-regime forces, local sources reported on Thursday.

Speaking to ARA News in Deir ez-Zor, civil rights activist Fayez Abdulaziz said that the IS radical group took control of four locations near the airport, including Hawijah, al-Mireiyeh, al-Maghsala and the Masmaka areas.

“At least six IS militant fighters were killed during the clashes,” Abdulaziz reported.

These developments came after two days of violent clashes between IS radicals and pro-regime military forces in the neighborhoods of al-Ummal, al-Sinaa and Rusafa in the city of Deir ez-Zor.

The neighborhoods’ clashes coupled with mutual artillery and missile attacks, which resulted in casualties on both sides. 

Meanwhile, media activist Khalil al-Jarrah told ARA News in Deir ez-Zor that one of the IS militants was killed during clashes with pro-Assad forces in the town of Sagr.

In the meantime, IS militants reportedly beheaded a number of the regime’s security forces in the village of al-Mirehiyeh near the military airport of Deir ez-Zor.

On Tuesday, in the neighboring city of al-Bukamal, IS radicals stoned to death one civilian after accusing him of adultery,local sources said.
