Qamishli, Syria – The “Rojava’s Peshmerga fighters” (Syrian Kurdish soldiers who defected from Assad’s regime forces and trained in the Kurdistan region of Iraq) were involved in the battlefront along with the Peshmerga forces in the Kurdistan region against militants of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS) in several areas of the region.

According to military sources in Kurdistan region, these fighters are well-prepared to defend the Syrian Kurdish areas, but are currently participating in battles in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Speaking to ARA News, the Syrian Peshmerga fighter Barzani Ahmed pointed out to the prominent role of the “Rojava’s Peshmerga” in battles against the militants of the Islamic State group in both northern Iraq.

“Syria’s Kurdish fighters (Rojava’s Peshmergas) participated in the libration of the Mosul Dam and the area of Sinjar in Nineveh province, forcing IS militants to withdraw,” according to Ahmad.

“The Rojava’s Peshmerga are currently involved the fighting fronts of Zimmar, Shingal, Hamdaniya and Ba’shiqah areas in northern Iraq,” Ahmad said, pointing out that hundreds of Syrian Kurdish fighters were engaged in supporting the Iraqi Peshmerga in the conflict against IS group.

Ahmed also stressed that the defense of the Kurdistan territory with its four parts (in Syria, Turkey, Iraq, and Iran) is their national duty.

“There is no difference between the four parts of Kurdistan, no difference between Kirkuk and Kobane (Ain al-Arab) nor between Mahabad in Iran’s Kurdistan or Amed in Turkey’s Kurdistan,” he said. “We, as Kurdish Peshmerga, are responsible for the protection of the Kurdish people in the four parts of Kurdistan.”

The Syrian Kurdish fighter added that Iraqi Peshmerga forces are defending Syria’s Kobane against IS militants, while hundreds of their Syrian peers are doing the same in Iraqi Kurdistan.
