France captures jihadist recruitment cell

Istanbul, Turkey ــ French Interior Minister Bernard Kaznov announced that units of the French anti-terrorist police arrested Tuesday eight suspects on charges of recruiting jihadists for Syria.

The French Minister told reporters that the suspects were arrested in the northern suburbs of Paris and the city of Lyon.

The French prosecutor’s office announced that the suspects were captured by formal arrest memorandum on suspicion of involvement in an extremist cell recruiting fighters on behalf of militant groups in Syria. 

The French authorities revealed that about 1300 French citizens have joined extremist groups in Syria. 

Recent reports by Western intelligence have shown that the number of French fighters in the ranks of the Islamic State group in Syria exceeds 400.
