Damascus, Syria – On Wednesday, the Syrian opposition forces gained control of a number of strategic buildings in the vicinity of the Jobar neighborhood east of the capital Damascus, as well as some of the outposts in the vicinity of the Eastern Ghouta in the Damascus countryside.
Media activist Khalil Mohammed, based in eastern Ghouta, stated to ARA News that fighters from the Islamic Movement of Ahrar ash-Sham stationed in Hatitat al-Jarsh in Ghouta were able to control a number of outposts of the Syrian regime forces on the outskirts of the town of Bala.
Mohamed confirmed that on Tuesday the rebels of the Army of Islam, al-Rahman Army Corps, Jund al-Asima and other rebel factions launched a military campaign under the banner “United” against pro-Assad forces in the Jobar neighborhood east of Damascus.
“The ‘United’ were able to control a number of strategic buildings in the vicinity of the neighborhood (Jobar) near Taiba after fierce clashes with the pro-regime forces backed by Shiite militias in the region,” the source told ARA News.
The source pointed out that the opposition forces were able to kill a number of regime fighters, and seize a tank and take possession of a number of heavy and medium machine guns.
The Jobar neighborhood of Damascus experiences daily battles between the pro-regime forces and the opposition fighters, amid continuous attempts by the regime to regain the neighborhood which was taken by the rebels nearly three years ago.
