Damascus, Syria – On Thursday, Islamist rebels of Ahrar al-Sham in Syria seized a crossing in Quneitra province near the Israeli border.

Ahrar al-Sham took over the crossing of al-Qahtaniya after three days of fierce clashes with another Islamist group known as Army of Jihad –which has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (IS/ISIS).

Haitham Nassar, a media activist accompanying Ahrar al-Sham in Quneitra, told ARA News that dozens were killed on both sides during the clashes.

According to military sources, the crossing of al-Qahtaniya is considered a strategic one for its proximity to the Golan Heights.

Ahrar al-Sham has played a role in the rebels operation in Idlib that resulted in the control of the city after forcing Assad army to withdraw.
