Damascus, Syria – On Wednesday, the head of Syria’s Qaeda wing Nusra Front said there is no solution soon to the rifts with the rival Islamic State group in Syria.

Hundreds of Nusra fighters were killed by IS militants in the past two years.

“There is no solution between us (Nusra) and them (ISIS) in the meantime, or in the foreseeable future,” head of Nusra, Abu Mohamad al-Golani, said in a statement to Aljazeera.

“We hope they repent to God and return to their senses…if not then there is nothing but fighting between us,” al-Golani said.

Nusra fighters backed Syrian rebel factions in operations against pro-Assad forces in the northern province of Idlib. They took over Idlib and the strategic city of Jisr al-Shughour after withdrawal of pro-Assad forces last April.
