Hasakah, Syria – Militant fighters of the Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) carried out Tuesday a major offensive on positions of the pro-Syrian regime forces and allied militias in Abyad area (10 km southwest Hasakah), northeastern Syria, local activists reported.

Speaking to ARA News in Hasakah, political activist Abdulsalam Saleh said that IS militants renewed its attacks against the regime-led Abyad Bridge, where security checkpoints have been  installed to deter militants attacks.

The IS-led attacks led to clashes between them and pro-Assad forces.

Regime forces supported their fighters with intensified artillery and air force raids on the group’s locations in the vicinity of the clashes area, according to pro-regime sources in Hasakah.

Medical sources in Aziziyah neighborhood of Hasakah reported that the National Hospital in the neighborhood received at least six corpses of the pro-regime forces and a number of wounded, as a result of the ongoing clashes with IS jihadists.

The Islamic State radicals launched several attacks on the regime-held western and southern entrances of Hasakah city last week, in an attempt to break into the city.
