Hasakah, Syria – As clashes continue between Kurdish fighters of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and extremists of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS) in northeastern Syria, U.S.-led coalition intensified its airstrikes on IS positions in the countryside of Qamishli and Hasakah, military sources reported on Wednesday.
The YPG Media Office told ARA News that U.S. and allies hit Wednesday several targets of the extremist group near Tel Hamis town in the southern countryside of Qamishli.
“This comes amid clashes between our (YPG) fighters and terrorists of Daesh (IS) in the eastern countryside of Hasakah and southern Qamishli,” the source said.
Heavy clashes took place between the Kurdish forces and IS militants in the village of Ghazalla (22km south Tel Hamis). At least four IS militants were killed, while three Kurdish fighters were injured.
Meanwhile, local media activist Abdulkarim Saleh reported that U.S. warplanes bombed an IS-held checkpoint near al-Hawl town southeast of Hasakah.
“IS-held villages in the vicinity of al-Hawl were also exposed to airstrikes by the coalition on Wednesday. The death tolls are still unknown,” Saleh told ARA News in Hasakah.
