QAMISHLI – The Turkish border guards killed Thursday an Armenian young man near Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) town in Hasakah province, northeastern Syria, as he tried to cross into Turkey illegally, Kurdish military sources reported.
“Armin Zamo, a young man from the Armenian minority, was shot dead this morning by the Turkish border guards in the village of Asadiya near Sere Kaniye on the border line with Turkey,” the Kurdish Asayish security forces said Thursday.
A Kurdish security member told ARA News that the victim was trying to cross the Turkish border with his family.
Separately, a special unit of the Kurdish Asayish forces has dismantled an explosive device placed on the road to the village of Dukery Qir.
“The explosive device was provided with a remote control and a hand grenade was placed near it,” said the Kurdish security forces in the northeastern Syrian city of Amuda.
Over the past four years, dozens of Syrian civilians have been shot dead by the Turkish border guards while crossing the border illegally.
