Hasakah, Syria – Military sources reported that the Haizoom squad of the opposition-linked Army of Islam announced Monday that they assassinated an official of the Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) in the city of Shaddadi, south of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.
A special operation was carried out by the Haizoom squad in which they killed Abu Bara al-Libi, a member of IS-led security group of al-Hisba in Shaddadi, who served as administrator for the weapons depot and the ammunition center, a member of Haizoom’s media office told ARA News on the condition of anonymity.
“The deceased was a car bomb expert, and had a criminal record in Shaddadi, and villagers in the southern region had suffered from his brutal practices, torture and oppression,” the source added.
On March 21, the Haizoom squad announced responsibility for the assassination of another leading member of the IS hardline group in the eastern areas of Shaddadi, according to Khalaf Abdullah, a civil rights activist based in Shaddadi.
“The IS-linked emir of Hasakah, Abu Osama al-Iraqi, announced that a reward one million Syrian pounds and a Kalashnikov will be granted for anyone who could provide him with information about the alleged cells linked to Haizoom in their areas of control,” Abdullah told ARA News.
The Islamic State radicals took control of Shaddadi following clashes with the Army of Islam and the al-Nusra Front (Syria’s branch of al-Qaeda) nearly one year ago, and took it as a major center in the “State of al-Barakah” (Hasakah province).
