FSA rebels seize parts of military airport southern Syria

Aleppo, Syria – Rebels of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) announced Thursday their control over major parts of Thala military airport in the western countryside of As-Suwayda province, in southern Syria, activists reported. 

Speaking to ARA News in As-Suwayda, media activist Mohammed al-Nuaimi reported that the FSA fighters stormed the military airport of Thala from several sides, using tanks and rocket launchers in their major offensive against military points of the Assad’s regime.

“Fierce clashes are still ongoing inside the airport,” said al-Nuaimi. “The FSA is currently in control of major parts of the airport.” 

In the meantime, local activists reported that the FSA rebels took over al-Kom checkpoint and the village of Sakaka in the countryside of As-Suwayda.

In Daraa, special units of the FSA announced responsibility for dropping a pro-regime warplane over Basr al-Hareer city, according to a video posted online. 

On Wednesday, FSA rebels took over the “Brigade 52″ in Daraa subsequent to a fierce battle with pro-Assad forces.
